Class Arrangements

Term 3, Semester 2, 2020

Due to Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, Mechanical Engineering classes for Term 2 2020 will be delivered remotely by online resources.

Here is a brief summary of how classes will run in Term 2;

  • Classes will be delivered online (Adobe Connect, MS Teams) with a link sent to students to log in during the class time. Adobe Connect works directly in a browser and does not require students to download or install any software, so it is probably our first choice (at least initially).
  • Classes will be typically split into 2 sessions – the first half is the teaching lesson (typically 1 hour), and the second half is a tutorial period where the teacher is available to help students individually or to make brief explanations of certain points. This new class arrangement will be set out on a revised timetable.
  • All assessments will be done on the WSI Moodle system. This is mostly a continuation of our existing assessment method.
  • Final exams are not yet determined. The final exams that need to be done at TAFE may require an alternative arrangement. This will be determined in the next few weeks.

It is also important that you share this information with your employer if you are attending TAFE during work time or as part of an arrangement with them.
I know that this new arrangement maynot suit everyone and that some mayfind the classes more difficult. If that is the case for you, at any stage, it is vital that you let me know. TAFE is throwing a lot of support and resources behind all this, but we can’t use them unless we know who needs them. Putting your (virtual) hand up if you more help is the best thing you can do to ensure you get the skills, knowledge and qualifications you need.

The next step:
Meanwhile, continue to work and progress in your studies as best you can. Make sure you set aside some fixed time to do this each week and feel free to email me any specific questions you might have.
